Why modular building systems are superior

Whether you’re expanding your business or taking on more students at your school or university, modular building systems can be superior to traditional builds in a variety of ways.

Having already outlined the benefits of modular building systems in one of our previous blog posts, you’d think we wouldn’t have a lot more to say on the subject. But as you can probably tell from the title of this article, we don’t just think modular buildings are a great alternative to traditional builds; we believe they can be even better!

Used in a variety of business sectors and in schools, colleges, and universities across the country, modular buildings are the preferred choice for a number of reasons.

As an aside, we’re not saying modular buildings will always be the better option — we’re simply saying there are certain advantages that modular buildings have over traditional builds that may be better suited to your needs. Still not sure? Here are five ways modular building systems are superior.

Fewer project disruptions

It’s rare for any construction project to go ahead without the occasional hiccup slowing down progress, setting back deadlines, or halting work altogether. Modular buildings, however, are constructed in a controlled environment (typically somewhere indoors like a warehouse or workshop) and are completed relatively quickly, with minimal disruptions or problems.

On the other hand, traditional builds can last several seasons when delayed by weather conditions, or postponed indefinitely as a result of seemingly unrelated problems occurring on a busy construction site.

Exceptional strength and durability

Using the latest innovations in materials, assembly, and technology, today’s modular building systems are some of the finest examples of high-quality construction you’re likely to see. Each module is designed to withstand long-distance transportation and craning into position. They’re also incredibly secure once assembled together and sealed; becoming one unified structure set firmly onto strong foundations.

More to the point, modular buildings are designed to be dismantled and then re-assembled at a completely different location. This makes them ideal for businesses who require additional space temporarily, or for businesses who may need to reconfigure the layout of their premises over time.

Better acoustics

Whereas sound propagates through the walls and ceiling of a traditional build, noise in a modular building doesn’t transfer from one room to another. This is because each module is technically a separate piece — and is one of the reasons modular buildings are a preferred choice for music classrooms in many schools, colleges and universities.

Improved air quality

As we’ve already mentioned, modular buildings are typically made in a factory-controlled setting using dry materials. This helps to eliminate the potential for high levels of moisture in the new construction — resulting in cleaner, better air quality indoors.

Why is this so important? Well, high-levels of moisture can lead to an increased number of volatile organic compounds in the air, which can seriously affect people with allergies and respiratory problems such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Of course, no building will ever be completely free from air impurities and for the majority of the time, it’s very rarely an issue — but knowing every step of the construction process has been controlled to help improve air quality is always something to consider.
